Greetings,

Attend a Senate Hearing on the Link Between Soda and Other
Sugar-Sweetened Drinks and Obesity

Come out and show your support for reducing consumption of soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages and curbing California's obesity epidemic.

When:  Thursday, November 5, 2009
  10:00 a.m.

Where:  Los Angeles City Council Chambers, City Hall
  200 North Spring Street
  Los Angeles

What: The California State Senate Select Committee on Obesity and Diabetes and the Senate Health Committee will convene a joint informational hearing on the link between sugar-sweetened beverages and obesity.

Why: While many factors promote weight gain, soft drinks are the only food or beverage that has been shown to increase the risk of overweight and obesity, which, in turn, increase the risk of diabetes, stroke, and many other health problems.

In California, 56% of adults and 30% of children are either overweight or obese.  According to a recent study, adults who drink a soda a day are 27% more likely to be overweight than adults who do not drink soda.  Reducing soda consumption is a key step in curbing California's obesity epidemic.

We want to fill the Council Chambers with supporters, so please bring friends and colleagues!
